Cueva del Canelobre – the amazing cave

We made an excursion went to the famous cave in Canelobre (near Alicante). Somewhere it is described as the world's largest natural cathedral and that is exactly how it feels. An underground, natural cathedral – completely created by nature, it feels like Gaudi (famous Catalan architect 1852 - 1926) helped create this.

The history of the cave is obscure, but we know that according to Arab chronicles it was discovered in 740. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican Army used the cave as a warehouse and repair shop for aircraft. From the middle of the 20th century it was opened to the public.

Cueva del Canelobre, located in the province of Alicante in Spain, is one of the most impressive cave systems in the country. The spectacular cave is known for its amazing beauty and unique formations. The Canelobre Cave has attracted visitors for centuries and is one of the more popular tourist destinations in the region.

The cave is located in a mountainous area near the town of Busot. It is an impressive and powerful sight to see the Cueva del Canelobre for the first time. The grand entrance opens into a huge chamber, where the ceiling reaches up to 70 meters and the walls are covered with amazing stalactites and stalagmites. The light that penetrates through the cracks in the ceiling gives the cave a mysterious and enchanting atmosphere.

One of the most famous formations in Cueva del Canelobre is the "Candelabrum" which gave the cave its name. Resembling a giant candlestick, this impressive stalactite stretches up to the ceiling and bears a striking resemblance to a crown. During a guided tour through the Cueva del Canelobre, visitors learn about the history of the cave. There is also a special part where concerts and musical performances are held thanks to the cave's fantastic acoustics. Listening to classical music or traditional Spanish songs in the natural surroundings is an experience that touches the soul. To protect and preserve the cave, some areas have limited access and some parts are only accessible by guided tours. Visitors are asked to respect the rules and not touch or damage any of the natural formations.

Cueva del Canelobre is well worth a visit for anyone visiting the Alicante region. The beauty and unique atmosphere create a memorable experience.
