28 of Murcia's beaches blue flagged in 2023
The Blue Flag is an international award given to beaches, marinas and sustainable tourist boats. To qualify for Blue Flag, a series of criteria must be met and maintained.
30 of Murcia's beaches, along the Costa Calida, have applied for 2023 and of these 28 have been blue flagged. It is ADEAC, the Spanish branch of FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) that is responsible for the certification.
Costa Calida - Spanish for the warm coast - is the Murcia region's coastline. It stretches from Aguilas in the south up to San Perdo del Pinatar in the north. Above that, the Costa Blanca takes over and then you are in the autonomous region of Valencia.
Costa Calida is about 250 km long and has rocky beaches as well as long sandy beaches. Here is also the impressive strip of land La Manga. A narrow strip of land that creates the Mar Menor lagoon, separated from the Mediterranean Sea.
