SAS transfers to Sky Team on September 1 (Photo: Svenska Magasinet )

SAS travelers to Spain with Eurobonus points and Eurobonus status have been wondering what happens after the airline leaves Star Alliance to switch to Sky Team.

On Monday morning, it became public that SAS will leave the Star Alliance on August 31. August 31 will therefore be the last day that Eurobonus members can earn points and get access to lounges, "fast track" and other benefits within Star Alliance. It appears from a press release. Following the transition from 1 September 2024, SAS EuroBonus members will benefit from similar loyalty benefits with most of the airlines included in the Sky Team. The change of points alliance is a consequence of KLM-Air France becoming a major shareholder in SAS, something that Svenska Magasinet has previously reported.

"On the last of August SAS will leave the Star Alliance and on the first of September the transition to Sky Team will begin. However, SAS will not be full members right away, but many of the benefits that apply to Eurobonus members will be in effect then".

"We look forward to giving our customers access to 19 new airlines and more than 1,060 destinations around the world. Customers will have continued access to their favorite cities and regions while enjoying more new destinations”.

“Our focus now is to guide customers and our EuroBonus members every step of the way during this transition. We look forward to sharing more information along the way, with the goal of creating a smooth transition to an exciting future with us," says Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer.
